Candleworks Restaurant
Passing The Torch By Stephen L. Cabral
The Candleworks Restaurant still glows in the cellar of the Rodman candle factory on North Water Street. That’s the street corner where Yankee whaling and fine European dining meet. Last autumn Mr. Bettencourt passed the torch of ownership to his young chef, Jared Morgado. The 27 year-old from Freetown reflected on his accomplishments. "I started working in kitchens when I was 13, and dreamed of owning my own restaurant ever since. I commuted to Boston, Cape Cod and Block Island during my teens and learned from some of the finest chefs. I was a young, seasoned cook when I took over the Candleworks kitchen seven years ago. Now I’m the owner, executive chef and driving force behind a historic, New Bedford landmark."

It's Incredible!
The Healthy Grille Restaurant & Bar
By Stephen L. Cabral
Don’t let the small parking lot and the non-descript, stucco façade of the old warehouse on the north side of Route 6 fool you. The little, roadside sub shop did not disappear. It merely morphed. The owners of the Healthy Grille Restaurant and Lounge have expanded and transformed the adjacent storage space into a colorful and comfortable dining area. Just pull up, step in and read the writing on the wall. You’ll discover newspaper articles and restaurant reviews that highlight the culinary visions and adventures of Amber DeVaney and Michael Glassman, the founders and co-chefs of the Healthy Grille.
