This year’s 25th Goodwood Festival of Speed will see historic Alfa Romeo cars alongside current production models and those still to make their way to the UK, showcasing the unbreakable bond between the icons of the past and the models that embody the brand’s new paradigm today. The event will also see the eagerly anticipated Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio make its dynamic United Kingdom debut up the famous Goodwood hill on Thursday 12th July.

Racing DNA: the return to Formula 1 and the Nürburgring Edition special series
As well as admiring the best of the current Alfa Romeo range, visitors to the stand will be able to get up-close with the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team showcar, currently competing in the Formula 1 championship and marking Alfa Romeo’s return to racing.

Also on display will be the Nürburgring Edition Giulia Quadrifoglio “NRING” and Stelvio Quadrifoglio “NRING” special series, celebrating the two cars’ records set on the famous German circuit. Just 108 of each of these limited edition models will be available in EMEA, one for each of the brand’s 108 years of history.

Giulia Quadrifoglio “NRING” and Stelvio Quadrifoglio “NRING” represent the pinnacle of the brand’s excellence in terms of technical content, performance and style, and are powered by the 510hp 2.9-litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine. Stelvio, holder of the record for its class, exploited its 600Nm of torque, accelerating from zero to 62mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 176mph to cover the 20.832km of the Nordschleife in 7 minutes, 51.7 seconds.

The two cars also offer an exclusive customer experience, including a driving experience on the legendary Nürburgring. Intended for collectors and the most loyal customers, the “NRING” models will come complete with a special “Welcome kit” and be fully specified.

In addition to the features of excellence that characterise all Quadrifoglio cars, the “NRING” special series also adds carbon-ceramic brakes, Sparco® racing seats with red stitching and carbon shell structure, gear leaver with carbon fibre insert and leather and Alcantara steering wheel, also with carbon fibre inserts as standard. The front badge, mirror caps and side skirt inserts are also made of carbon fibre. Tinted windows, Adaptive Cruise Control, Harman Kardon premium audio package, and the AlfaTM Connect 3D Nav infotainment system with 8.8-inch screen, Apple CarPlayTM, Android AutoTM and DAB complete the standard package. A Circuit Grey livery will be exclusively available on these limited editions, combined with a new bare carbon roof on the Giulia and an electrically operated panoramic roof on the Stelvio.

All limited edition “NRING” models will be completed by an “Authenticity Certification” issued by FCA Heritage, the department that promotes the historical record of the FCA Group’s Italian brands. Normally only reserved for historic cars, the “NRING” editions come with genuine “Instant Classic” status.

The best of current production
Alongside the Nürburgring Edition special series, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio in Vulcano Black livery, the Giulia Veloce Ti and the Giulietta Veloce will also be on display. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce Ti, in Competizione Red livery, equipped with 280hp turbo petrol engine combined with 8-speed automatic transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive (available in LHD only), is an embodiment of the technical and automotive excellence of the Giulia range. The time-honoured code “Ti”, standing for “Turismo internazionale”, has always been reserved to the most lavishly equipped, extreme versions and this is no different. The Giulia Ti is the most exclusive version in the range, successfully combining the Giulia Veloce’s sporty flavour with an alluring style, impressive standard equipment and the very latest technology.

The Giulietta Veloce is the sportiest version in the Giulietta range and is fitted with the 240hp 1,750cc Turbo Petrol engine and TCT automatic transmission. With metallic Misano Blue paintwork, this high-performing version is identifiable by its bumpers with red Alfa inserts, glossy anthracite finishes on the door handles, fog light surrounds, mirror caps and radiator grill “V”. The electronic sun roof with large glazed section, oversize Brembo braking system with red calipers, 18-inch burnished finish 5-spoke alloy wheels and larger-sized twin exhaust tips make it unmistakable. This strong personality is also reflected on the inside with leather and Alcantara seats, with integral head restraint, contrasting red seams and sporty cut leather steering-wheel.

The FCA Heritage collection
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the world’s largest outdoor automotive events, and this year it celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary. More than 600 cars and motorbikes will be taking part in the event with some of motor racing’s most legendary personalities and world-famous celebrities. FCA Heritage, the Group department dedicated to conserving and promoting the historic legacy of FCA’s Italian brands, will bring two Alfa Romeo gems from its collection to take part in this year’s festival, connecting a great history to a great future. Visitors will be able to admire the 1750 GT Am and the 1900 Sport Spider, two models normally on display at the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in Arese, Milan.

Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Am

The 1750 GT Am was type-approved for GT racing, on the basis of the 1750 GT Veloce version built for the USA market – hence the “Am” for “America”. Unlike the model sold in Europe, the 1750 GTV – from which the GT Am was born – featured the Spica indirect mechanical injection system, which complied with American emissions standards and was also well suited to racing. In contrast with the Giulia Sprint GTA and the later GTA 1300 Junior, the GT Am had steel body panelling and riveted fibreglass wheel arch flares, giving the car a very aggressive look. There were also major changes to the engine, giving it a power output of 220hp at 7,500rpm to propel the GT Am to a speed of 240km/h.

The GT Am achieved great success in the European GT Championship when the car’s top driver, the “Flying Dutchman” Toine Hezemans, won the Drivers’ Title in 1970.

Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider

Only two 1900 Sport Spider cars were ever built, and the only one to have survived is from the FCA Heritage collection, with bodywork designed by Bertone. It was constructed under the supervision of Orazio Satta and Giuseppe Busso. The car’s mechanicals originate from the “1900 Super Sprint”: the twin-cam engine had the same cast iron engine block as the coupé, but the displacement was raised to close to the two-litre limit (1,997.4 cc) for racing purposes. The compression ratio was boosted to 9:1, dry sump lubrication was added and power was increased to 138hp. The car was equipped with double wishbone front suspensions with a De Dion rear axle, the solution adopted twenty years later on the “Alfetta” sedan.
