The AMG GT Black Series is the most exclusive and also the most extreme iteration of the fabled GT range. The Black Series denotes lightweight performance a series of special track-focused supercars that have cemented themselves as one of the greats of the performance car world. However, while the new AMG GT Black Series might suffice as a fast car on land when it comes to water, a speed boat would be the next best alternative.
That is where Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing have joined hands to come up with the all-new Cigarette 41’ Nighthawk AMG Black Series special edition boat. A representation of what AMG for the sea can be, in other words. This is the 13th such boat that has been jointly developed in this partnership between the two brands. The 41’ Nighthawk AMG Black Series Edition has a unique twin-step hull design which gives it a sharper edge in terms of on-water performance.
It also has a low center of gravity, which improves handling, and light overall weight, which improves speed. Further performance-oriented enhancements include a completely carbon-fiber deck and an all-carbon-fiber hardtop design. Composite materials are used by performance cars and that is the same ethos applied here. It also helps in structural rigidity.
What is also distinctive is the hue on the boat and the design details around it. The Magmabeam orange and black exterior are influenced by the AMG GT Black series road car along with optional interior elements in orange too. There are small AMG logos painted towards the bow of the boat in a repeating pattern. Each of these logos is also individually painted – there are no decals. The center trim pieces of the engine cowlings are also painted in Magmabeam orange. The layout of the Cigarette 41’ Nighthawk AMG Black Series involves a central console with a helm and cabin in the center of the boat. This gives the ability to walk around on both sides, and an open bow for seating upfront.
In terms of performance, like the GT Black Series, it is a V8 that does the talking, albeit having no less than five race-spec outboard engines. These five 4.6-liter V8 Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines generate 450 peaks prop shaft horsepower each and are controlled via a shadowing throttle system, which allows only two levers to be used to control all five engines simultaneously. The combined 2,250 output takes this new special edition boat to a top speed of more than 90 MPH. This bespoke boat is already spoken for and was snapped up quickly even with a price tag of $1.2 million.
