The Desoto Celebrates Artistic Excellence with SCAD and Savannah Jazz Festival

When the splendid DeSoto Hotel opened its doors to much pomp and circumstance on New Year’s Eve 1890, the majestic hotel of grandeur welcomed celebrities and dignitaries from near and far. Over the next 129 years, prominent individuals, including Elvis Presley, Gregory Peck, Katherine Hepburn, and five presidents – William McKinley, William Taft, Woodrow Wilson, and Jimmy Carter – would grace its magnificent halls.

Now it’s “A New Day,” and The DeSoto, a stately, treasured landmark with stunning contemporary décor, continues to carry on the impeccable legacy of being an epicenter of Savannah’s social life. The historic hotel features antique elements from the original property, including terra cotta pieces, wrought iron details, lion head water fountain located outside, and sparkling crystal chandeliers. The iconic Grand Dame of Savannah Hotels, immaculate property with exceptional southern hospitality, currently serves a new generation in perpetual excellence.

The Artistic SCAD Touch.

Upon your entrance into the grand vestibule, you will find intriguing paintings and captivating sculptures. The architecture intersects splendidly with contemporary art as a result of The DeSoto partnering with the internationally renowned Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). In its internal gallery, the hotel showcases the temporary and permanent art of SCAD graduates, fine art photographers, and emerging artists. Engaging pieces include works by Tom Francis, Lauren Clay, and Justin Ward. Take a complimentary tour of the college’s flagship building named Poetter Hall, which is a short leisurely stroll from The DeSoto.
