The new Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is the latest watch from Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux and could be the most interesting one to date. The design is more sombre but elegant, and yet has a dash of Aston Martin. This is the sixth time that the two brands have worked together since 2021, and the talking point this time is the green hue that Aston Martin is famous for. The dial of this watch, for example, is bathed in green with Girard-Perregaux picking an iridescent shade from Aston Martin’s palette. The dial is coloured during a time-intensive, intricate process that involves 14 manufacturing steps alone.
However, the relation to Aston Martin is more than that, with materials being taken from which the car brand develops its cars. A simple example can be Grade five titanium, an exotic material that was used in the production of the marque’s hypercar, Valkyrie, which has been used for the new Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition. The Valkyrie, as we have covered earlier, is a hardcore racing car while being thinly disguised for the road, but the ethos of its lightweight construction and design has been sprinkled onto this watch.
Even the smallest details mimic the most memorable Aston Martins of the past, with the seconds hand being inspired by none other than the air intakes of the svelte DB4. As said earlier, the design is classier and the detailing does not shout while being less extroverted than the earlier time pieces. Plus, the Aston Martin branding is also more subdued and kept at the back, with no need to shout about the collaboration, we feel. The watch is also slim, lightweight, and does not have the bulk of some of the motorsport or automotive-themed watches. In fact, we like its lithe and toned design while still fitting well in terms of carrying the visual bulk that is needed from a timepiece such as this. The detailing is superb, and the watch is practical as well. Limited to just 188 pieces, the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is the most alluring watch yet from this duo and represents a maturing of the design ethos while showcasing what more to expect in the years to come, while it is rarer than some of the Aston Martin cars out there!
