Kingsbarns Single Malt Whisky

The exciting and relatively new Scottish Kingsbarns distillery, located in the Fife peninsula, is a restored farm steading dating back to the 1800s. The Distillery is run by the Scottish Wemyss family whose roots date back to the turn of the 19th century when John Haig (Founder of Haigs) built his first Distillery on Wemyss land.

The Kingsbarns Distillery launched its first fully matured whisky in 2018.  The Kingsbarns Dream to Dram is a lowland whisky distilled exclusively from barely grown in East Fife and was left to mature for a minimum of three years in first-fill Bourbon casks from Heaven Hill Distillery.

Dream to Dram has a complex and distinctive character, light intensely fruity, floral and balanced, with a color and richness coming from the wood. On the nose, there is a banana, pineapple syrup, and summer berries, with a slight herbal note. There are soft toffee, custard pastry and redcurrants on the palate with a finish of ginger syrup.

It is packaged in gentle shades of blue, gold and brown with a pigeon motif representing the historic ‘doocot’ (Scottish for dovecot) that sits in the heart of the distillery. This is where the first cask which was filled is displayed.  Today the doos (pigeons), which supplied the laird’s table with meat and eggs have long since flown however the doocot, which has been carefully restored, remains a centerpiece for the former farm steading and a symbol for the whisky.

Kingsbarns Distillery offers three types of whisky tours, suitable for all levels of whisky enthusiasts. It is advisable to book in advance, your ticket to the tour gives a voucher redeemable against a 70cl bottle of whisky or gin. If you don’t have time for a tour – the shortest one takes one hour – you can always try a flight of whiskies in the cafe where there are also other beverages and food available.  To avoid disappointment check cafe opening hours as they are subject to seasonal changes.

The Distillery can be booked for private dinners and drink receptions, all of which include a tour of the visitor center.

“Dream to Dram is a wonderful single malt that I think perfectly captures the Lowland style and character of our East Neuk home in Fife “, said William Wemyss, owner of Kingsbarns Distillery.

Dream to Dram is bottled at 46% ab and has an RRP of US$59 and along with other goodies is available in the farm shop.
