Dictador, Producing The Finest Spirits in all of Colombia

Colombian rum producer Dictador has launched the first of its three Fine and Rare Capitulo limited series, a range of individually bottled casks, each selected by Dictador master blender and third-generation rum-maker Hernan Parra. It is aimed at consumers keen to invest in collectible rum.

Capitulo Uno is a collection of rums aged in American oak and finished in a range of casks, including port and sherry. There are eight releases in the range, five American oak cask, two-port cask, and one sherry cask, all aged between 20 and 24 years and bottled at between 41% and 44% ABV.

Founded in 1913, Destilleria Colombiana Don Julio Arango Parra makes rums named after the nickname of a tax collector, Severo Arango Y  Ferro. It is based in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cartagena, the first sugar cane production area in South America.

Its Dictador 2 Masters range is a luxury rum collection created by two masters excelling in wine and spirits making. Collaborations have been with  Drew Mayville of the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardsworth, Kentucky,  Mikael Bouilly of Hardy Cognac, Jerome Cosson cellar master Chateau d’Arche, winemaker Thibault Despagne, Cyril Laudet of Labelle Armagnac, Callum Fraser of Glanefarclas  Whisky, and Herve Jestin of Epernay Champagne-maker LeClerc Briant.

The latest edition to its prestigious 2 Master range is Dictador 2 Masters Royal Tokaji, a rare edition of 40-year-old Colombian rum that has been matured in wine casks from the acclaimed Royal Tokaji Wine Company in Hungary. Parra worked with Royal Tokaji’s master blender Zoltán Kovács to age a 1977 vintage Dictador rum for seven months in 12-year-old, 300-litre Zemplén oak barrels that were previously used to age the 2016 Royal Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos.

Hernan Parra comments: “In the depths of the 13th century Royal Tokaji wine cellar, our rum has developed a new and extraordinary finish. Its palate is elegant and balanced, smooth and rich, with a good attack and a persistent finish.”  Only 475 decanters of the Dictador 2 Masters Royal Tokaji is available worldwide. The 2 Masters range in prices from $750-$1490.

Dictador has created a robust cryptographic security system in its labels; they contain 11 protective layers, gold paint with UV glowing protection, micro text, and typographical numbering. The bottles are presented in armored glass packaging that uses fingerprint technology to unlock.
