One in 6 children in the United States faces hunger and, in South Florida the figures are even more severe:  1 in 5.  No Kid Hungry, the national campaign created by Share Our Strength, is ending childhood hunger in this nation by ensuring that kids start the day with a nutritious breakfast and families learn the skills they need to shop and cook on a budget and on this past April 27th more than 1,000 charity-minded foodies gathered for the annual Taste of the Nation charity event featuring Miami-Dade and Broward county chefs, sommeliers, and mixologists.

The event took place at Wynwood’s Ice Palace Film Studios and featured some of South Florida’s top eateries like Alter, Bazaar By Jose Andres, Boulud Sud Miami, Macchialina, NaiYaRa, and Three & No. 3 Social.  Wynwood Brewing Company, Biscayne Brewery, and Per’La Specialty Roasters were also amongst those celebrating and raising funds.  Over $189,000 were raised with local beneficiaries including Florida Impact, FLIPANY, and Feeding South Florida.

Leading the pack of over 60 of the city’s best food and drink destinations were Chef Chairman Timon Balloo and Honorary Chef Chair Allen Susser.  Following the event guests headed to the after party hosted by restaurant-gallery R House where sampling continued courtesy of Taquiza, Ms. Cheezious, Tropical Fluff, MadLab Creamery, and Estrella Damm.

Andy Villabona, the Southeast Manager for Taste of the Nation was thrilled with the outcome.

“The 30th annual South Florida’s Taste of the Nation was a tremendous success! Our work to ensure that kids have access to the meals they need where they live, learn and play, wouldn’t be possible without the support of the culinary community – which was out in full force on April 27th.”
