Maserati has pulled the covers off its MCPURA supercar, and yes, it is similar looking to the MC20, albeit with some tweaks. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025, the MCPURA gets sleeker styling via a softer-looking new bumper design, plus a bigger grille which takes a more trapezoidal shape. The grille design is more aggressive, and that is also joined by the front splitter, which is new as well. There are bigger intakes too, and the rear has a more rounded bumper design along with this pleasing shade. This new AI Aqua Rainbow is quite a different colour and changes color in sunlight too. Fret not, though, as there are three different colors as well, including Devil Orange, Verde Royale, and Night Interaction. That said, we like the Aqua shade the most.
The coupe and the convertible are also different, with either a gloss or a matte look. Inside, the seats get laser etched Alcantara, but in a unique way, there are stripes which sort of depict tyre marks. Some bits remain: the carbon-fibre body; the Maserati-patented V6 Nettuno engine; the “Butterfly” doors; and the retractable glass roof, for the convertible version (MCPURA Cielo). Carbon fiber is a must-have when making a lightweight supercar, and here, the carbon-fiber monocoque brings the total weight down to under 1,500 kg.
The engine continues to be the 3.0-liter twin-turbo, which develops 630 CV at 7500 rpm and 720 Nm of torque from 3000 rpm. The power-to-weight ratio is 210 CV/liter, and that is plenty of grunt. We like the way the coupe looks even more now with those doors, and the convertible version has the cool electrochromic retractable glass roof, which turns opaque! This is a mild transformation of the MC20 and injects fresh life into the design, which looks sleeker now. Prices will increase, though, when US sales start from December. The MCPURA will compete with a variety of supercars in this hugely competitive segment, while Maserati hopes that sales will increase post this launch for its flagship supercar.
