2025 is fast approaching and once we tick over to the new year, the countdown for summer begins. Summer is a great time of year as the days stay lighter for longer, everyone can wear shorts or skirts and we can socialize outside, whilst enjoying a glass of wine (or two) and a BBQ.
What this means, is that we can also start getting our home ready for summer 2025. We can buy the paint to repaint the fencing and shed, purchase a new air conditioner to keep our home cool when it gets hot, and prepare our summer wardrobe so we can store away our coats and jackets.
Keep on reading for our guide on preparing for summer 2025.
Redecorating your garden fences and shed
A quick win and something that is very easy to do, is redecorate your garden fences and shed (if you have one). When the weather is cold and miserable during winter, they often get damaged and lose their coloring, making them look tired. A quick lick of paint and you can bring them back to looking as good as new. Whilst repainting, this could be a good opportunity to change the color of them – take a look at Pinterest for fence color inspo.
Preparing your summer wardrobe
As summer approaches, it’s time to rotate your wardrobe and start preparing all your summer clothes. Take a day to go through all your outfits and separate them into winter and summer outfits. All the winter outfits can be stored away under your bed or in a cupboard, whilst the summer items can all be hung up, ready to be worn. Tips for storing your winter clothes include using air-tight containers or vacuum-safe bags.
Deep clean your BBQ
Don’t forget to deep clean your BBQ! Your BBQ is going to be one of the first things you get out when the weather is nice. It’s so lovely inviting your friends and family members around and enjoying a BBQ together. You can prepare a playlist on Spotify or Apple Music to play and make a couple of gin cocktails, which you can all enjoy whilst eating your meal. Make sure you deep clean your BBQ well in advance as you may need to go over it a couple of times, if it’s been left in your shed or garage for a few months, gathering dust. If you have a hot tub, this is also the time to start preparing and cleaning it.
Swap your bed linen
When the weather is warm, there is nothing worse than being too hot and trying to sleep in bed. To help have a better night’s sleep, swap your bed linen for something thinner. You may want to change your duvet for a lighter one at the same time. During the winter 2.5 tog is warm, but in the summer you can go down to 0.5 tog. In addition, putting your blankets into storage will free up space as you won’t need them when it’s hot. Making sure your fans are working and that you have your air conditioning unit ready will also be helpful, this way when it is hot, you can get it out right away to cool you down.
Prepare your garden furniture
Nothing prepares you for summer more than getting your garden furniture ready. Getting your garden chairs, your garden table, and reclining chairs out of the shed and cleaning them in advance is very useful. When you get them out, you can inspect them for damage and if required purchase some new ones in time for when the sun is beaming on you. When going through your shed, you may also notice other furniture pieces that you can get ready. Popping down to your local garden center is also very helpful, as you can see what summer items you could potentially purchase and put out in your garden. A lot of people like to buy new plants as it’s hard to keep plants alive during the winter months. Plants also add a nice color to your garden and an extra dynamic.
