If your eyebrows could speak and you asked them what they most desired, what do you think their reply would be? In all likelihood, they might take a while to answer. Weighing up Cle de Peau, Le Mer, and Le Prairie with 111 SKIN, and then, having come to their decision, may probably say, Lab Room Elixir, por favor.

A graduate in Art History, Mónica Ceño Elie-Joseph was born in 1970 in Madrid. With a Lebanese-Haitian mother and a Spanish father, she worked at the MOMA and Guggenheim before creating her own beauty care brand in 2004.

THE LAB ROOM started as a day spa, created by Mónica Ceño Elie-Joseph, and in 2004 became a niche cosmetic line focusing on products for both the body and soul. With experience working for L’Oréal Paris, Mónica’s products feature botanical and aromatherapy properties, and have become a favourite with celebrities such as Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez. These include Wonderbalm, Beauty Boost Serum, Cedar Hair Mask, and the Eyebrow Collection.

Silhouette-enhancing bust oils, phyto-endorphins, optimal skin luminosity, blackhead deterrents, combating complexion-damaging HEV blue light from digital devices, providing bespoke intensive solutions to the premature ageing of the neck and decollete, and creating nutrient vitamin prebiotic cocktails is an industry.

And no one does it better than the Spanish.

Nothing oxygenates the skin better than Natura Bisse’s oxygen cream and mousse.

Spain is perhaps better known for its fashion than its cosmetic brands. Sisley Paris was founded by a Spaniard. Natura Bisse was founded in Barcelona in 1979 by Ricardo Fisas Mulleras and started out with just five skin creams.

Fisas noticed that factory employees who worked with amino acids had strikingly soft hands. Upon further investigation, he discovered that exposing the skin to the natural, free form of amino acids had a powerful cosmetic effect. Fisas and Gloria Vergés founded Natura Bissé with a clear purpose: to take care of people’s skin and their sense of well-being at every stage of life. The second generation of the Fisas family now runs the company

Today, the company has stores worldwide and still focuses on skincare, using innovative technologies that help target the effects of aging.

The Daimon Cocoon Collection is based on three pillars—liberate, fortify, and shield. Alteromonas Fermented Extract creates a mesh that captures pollutant particles; Actibiome Complex is a prebiotic complex that maintains the balance of the skin microbiota; and PolyShield is a polymer that creates an invisible veil over your face. A cutting-edge combination of assets that empower your skin to shine!

SKEYNDOR is another Barcelona brand, which has now gone worldwide. The company was created in the 1960s and features various beauty lines from facial care to body creams, solar protection, and make-up. They also have their own special Skeyndor men’s collection.

Its symbol, the swan, embodies all these qualities. Carmen Vidal created her skincare brand from the secrets of beauty learned in her native Algiers, as well as while working in Paris.
