The McLaren F1 remains one of the greatest supercars ever made. Its V12 engine and unique central driving position set benchmarks that still inspire carmakers today. Designer Gordon Murray has now taken on the impossible task — reimagining the hardcore F1 GTR for the modern hypercar era. The result is the Gordon Murray Automotive S1 LM, a tribute to the car that conquered Le Mans.

The project comes from Gordon Murray Special Vehicles (GMSV), the brand’s bespoke division for one-off creations. Only five examples will ever be built, all commissioned by a single collector. The S1 LM borrows its silhouette from the F1 GTR, with sculpted flanks, dramatic wheels, and a towering rear wing. At the same time, its sharper front end, radical headlamps, and race-bred aero details — from the roof intake to the central airfoil and four-part exhaust — bring it firmly into the present.

Power comes from a 4.3-liter naturally aspirated V12, adapted from the acclaimed T.50 hypercar. It produces more than 700 horsepower and revs to an astonishing 12,000 rpm. A stiffer suspension setup ensures sharper handling, while the cabin blends nostalgia with function: period-style upholstery, a wooden gear lever, and a thick steering wheel designed for feedback. Just like the original F1 GTR, the car even comes with ear defenders — a nod to the V12’s ferocious soundtrack.

Raw, analogue, and uncompromising, the S1 LM celebrates Gordon Murray’s legacy while pushing hypercar design forward. It captures the essence of the F1 GTR’s racing DNA but reinterprets it with modern engineering. For the fortunate collector who will own all five cars, the S1 LM is more than a machine — it is rolling art, crafted to honor one of the most important supercars ever built.
