Few color pairings are as enduring as blue and white — elegant, calming, and versatile, the combination has defined decorative arts for centuries. At Spode, it’s a palette deeply embedded in the brand’s DNA, and for 2025, it’s taking center stage once again with a striking new collection of vases.

Spode, founded in 1770 in Stoke-on-Trent, has long been synonymous with innovation and craftsmanship. From pioneering new techniques in glaze printing to creating the now-iconic Blue Italian pattern in 1816, the brand’s legacy is both rich and quietly revolutionary. Today, it remains a benchmark in British ceramics, known for blending historic design with contemporary taste.

This latest release introduces six vases, three jumbo, three mini, each drawing from Spode’s beloved Blue Italian and Steccato collections. Together, they celebrate the timeless appeal of blue and white through fresh silhouettes made for modern interiors.

The mini vases offer decorative charm in compact form; a classic ginger jar, a delicately striped Steccato piece, and a floral Imari-inspired vase are all perfect for small arrangements, shelf styling, or simply as standalone objects. The jumbo vases, on the other hand, make a real statement. With patterns dating back to the early 1800s, including the Gothic Castle and British Flowers designs, each piece honors Spode’s archive while feeling entirely current.

Design Director Lisa Archambault says, “There’s something grounding about the freshness of white paired with the richness of blue. It evokes calm, while also offering a canvas for storytelling through pattern and form.” The new vases reflect that spirit, offering a bold yet considered take on traditional craft.

When layered together, the Steccato and Blue Italian patterns create a dynamic tension: crisp lines and playful stripes against sweeping romantic scenes. For an elevated tablescape, Steccato side plates stacked on Blue Italian dinner plates show just how well heritage and modernity can live side by side. The collection is now available at spode.co.uk.
