7 Exciting Water Sports You Should Try on Your Next Adventure

Don’t get me wrong – there is absolutely nothing wrong with lying on a beach, taking the occasional dip, and just relaxing by the water, soaking in the rays.

But sometimes, we crave a little more excitement on holiday. If you are looking to add a bit of adventure to your vacation, here are the seven water sports you should try:

parasailing is a great water sport

Parasailing

Parasailing is the sport where you are attached to what mostly looks like a parachute, tied to a boat, and dragged through the air.

You can do it in twos or threes even, and in many different places around the world, as the activity has become immensely popular.

The sensation is much like flying, but if you are afraid of heights, you might want to skip this one.

paddleboarding is a great water sport

Paddleboarding

Sticking closer to the water, paddleboarding is just what it sounds like: using paddles to navigate your board in the water.

Boards come in different shapes and sizes and can be made from plastic or inflatable nylon, which makes them soft and kind to those who fall.

Make sure you know how to choose a paddleboard, depending on the waters you are surfing and the experience you have in balancing on aboard.

surfing is a fabulous water sport

Surfing

An activity you will need to try out at a specific location, as not all waves are surfable, but an incredible way to get an adrenaline rush in the water.

Surfing is undoubtedly a challenge – as you will need a fair amount of strength and balance to ride a wave. You can always start with bodyboarding if you are not up for the standup part just yet.

Make sure you get some surfing lessons before you head out, though. Some waves can be more dangerous than others, and you can injure yourself if you hit your board too hard.

sailing is one of my favorite water sport

Sailing

If you are in the mood for something much more gentle and relaxed, try your hand at sailing.

True, some would not call this a sport, but let’s just be reminded of the feats of the men and women who take their boats around the world or race each other on the waters, and rethink that statement.

Sailing will require a bit of learning and getting to know the boat and the currents. But on the other hand, it’s not as taxing and can be an incredible way to blow off some steam. So if you are looking for a way to spend more time on the water without having to get too wet, this is your option.

popular water sport is diving and snorkling

Diving and snorkeling

If you would like to truly immerse yourself in the water, diving or snorkeling can be an incredible option.

You can snorkel practically anywhere, and most waters will reward you with glimpses at fish and other underwater life. Or you can explore the rocks and pebbles at the bottom.

On the other hand, diving will require some training (which you can get on the spot). It also needs to take place at very specific locations that are both safe and have plenty to offer in terms of scenery.

Both options are an excellent choice for an adventure-packed afternoon or morning on the waters.

kayaking is a famous water sport for many

Kayaking

Another way to get from point A to point B, kayaking is a great way to get a workout while also covering some decent ground.

It may seem like hard work, but depending on the river (or sea) you choose to kayak in, you can go with the current and mostly steer.

Kayaking is a great way to get to know an area, as the view from the river will offer an entirely fresh perspective.

cliff diving is consider a water sport

Cliff diving

If you are not afraid of heights and are in the mood to get your heart pumping, cliff diving can be an outstanding option.

Make sure you are a decent swimmer, though, because you will need to be able to pull yourself back up to the surface. Also, make sure you only jump off cliffs where it is certain that the water below is deep enough, no matter how hard you land.

Perfect your technique to minimize the pain upon entry, and enjoy.

Final thoughts

Any of these watersports are an excellent way to spice up your time by the water. So, choose based on your personal preferences, and have fun!
