Louis XIII “Smart Decanter”

For over a century, Louis XIII has been a symbol of French taste and sophistication, captivating the royal courts of Europe and becoming a permanent feature in the most prestigious hotels. One of Louis XIII’s very first ambassadors in France was the Ritz Hotel, who placed their first order back in 1935. That proud legacy endures today, as Louis XIII continues to transcend time.

In February 2919 The House of Remy Martin launched it’s LOUIS XIII ‘Smart Decanter‘, the first crystal connected decanter.  The futuristic design integrates near field communication technology (NFC).

Ludovic du Plessis, Louis XIII global executive director said every Louis XIII decanter will feature this smart solution worldwide. At Louis XIII, we place clients at the very heart of everything that we do, striving to offer them always the best experiences’.

The bottles feature an NFC-enabled chip that has been integrated into the cork stopper of each decanter and you can activate it by tapping your smartphone against it.  This allows access to the Louis XIII Society landing page you can then create or log on to your account. The decanter number will then be automatically registered.

The Louis XIII Society is a private members club for owners of Louis XIII decanters. On offer, there is customized decanter engravings, pre-releases of limited editions, contact with a Louis XIII personal advisor for private tastings and an invitation to network with other Louis XIII Cognac owners registered all over the world.

The Louis XIII decanter will also allow owners to create custom gifting messages that will appear when recipients scan their decanter.

Louis XIII was first created in 1874, it is an exquisite blend of up to 1,200 grapes Eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region. Each eau-de-vie is matured slowly inside oak cask. Each individually numbered decanter is designed after an original 16th-century metal flask, discovered on the site of the Battle of Jarnac in France and bought by Paul-Emile Remy Martin in 1850. For generations, some of the most skilled master craftsmen of La Maison Baccarat have made the mouth-blown decanters, a feat of the finest crystal craftsmanship.

Louis XIII Cognac has been watched over by generations of Cellar Masters since its origins.  Each decanter is a life achievement of generations of Cellar Masters. Each Cellar Master selects and sets aside, for his successors, the oldest and greatest Eaux-de-vie from Louis XIII cellars, which makes Louis XIII the ultimate expression of the mastery of time. Today, Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau is setting aside the finest Eaux-de-vie, as a legacy to his successors for the coming century.  The Cellar Master has always been chosen by the chairman to carry on the unchanging heritage of Louis XIII. In charge of creating this subtle and elaborate blend, the Cellar Master is an artist and visionary who pass their know-how to the next generation.

Louis XIII develops intense aromas which persist more than one hour on the palate.  “Louis XIII it a wave of sensations that carry you away,” says  Cellar Master Baptiste  Loiseau. Over the decades, a mysterious communication between the air, the wood, and the Eaux-de-vie culminate in a magical firework of flavors and aromas, evoking myrrh, honey, dried roses, plum, honeysuckle, cigar box, leather, figs, and passion fruit.

Looks like the smart decanter is the way forward as several other drinks producers have made announcements that they would be incorporating NFC technology into their bottles.
