It has been a while since your last vacation, and you are looking forward to getting away from your reality for a while. There are a few things you should do before you travel to make your experience safe, convenient, and stress-free.

Get Vaccinated

The Coronavirus has stagnated the entire world for the last year. Hotels have gone out of business, and airlines are struggling to survive. Many countries have imposed travel restrictions and, in some cases, travel bans.

Before you leave the United States, you will need to either have proof of a negative  Covid-19 test or proof of vaccination. There are some countries that may not let you in without the vaccination. If you are going to be touring public places while you travel, it will greatly reduce the risk of your getting the virus or giving it to somebody else.

Choose a Suitcase Wisely

Are you planning to live on the road for a while, or are you taking a trip of two weeks or less? If your trip is any shorter than two weeks, you may want to simply take a carry-on bag and stay in accommodations that offer a laundry room. Taking a simple carry-on bag can save you time, money, and stress. This is especially important if you are taking an economy-class flight as they will normally charge you extra for bags.

Consider a Business Class Flight

If you are carrying large bags, you may want to consider a business class flight. Not only are business seats much more comfortable and larger for social distancing purposes, but a business class ticket will also normally allow you to check one or two bags for free. Your meal and a cocktail will be complimentary, and you may get to enjoy a business class or first class lounge before your flight. You can read more here.

Pack Emergency Supplies

There are a few things no suitcase should be without. You should always pack a first aid kit and carry a bottle of water or two. It is a good idea to pack soap, shampoo, a box of breakfast bars, and some single-serving sleeves of coffee, lest you should stay in accommodations that do not offer these things.

It is a good idea to store an extra toothbrush or two in case you should forget yours somewhere. If you are on a special diet such as vegetarian or gluten-free, it is a good idea to pack a little bit of extra food such as peanut butter and crackers in case you should visit a place where the cuisine is not particularly accommodating to your diet.

Give Someone Your Itinerary

It may be hard to plan absolutely everything you do on your vacation in advance. There should always be a certain element of spontaneity to any trip. However, it is a good idea to give your itinerary to at least one person. They should know all of your flight numbers and what hotels you will stay in as well as any planned events or activities that you were going to participate in.

If you are planning to post everything about your trip on Instagram or Facebook along the way, think again. This will only let people know you are away from home. It will be an invitation for thieves to rob you.

Traveling can be fun and exciting as long as you prepare for it properly. The world can be your oyster if you bring the proper shucking tools and watch out for pearls and parasites.
