The beautiful Balearic Isle of Ibiza has long asked its visitors to choose between the abandon of its pulsing party hotels and the serenity of its wellness retreats. But Bonito Ibiza, a striking new arrival on sun-drenched San Antonio Bay, is a hotel that treats revelry and restoration as two sides of the same coin and invites guests to embrace and experience the best of both worlds.

The hotel’s aesthetic is pared-back but soulful, with a strong overarching concept embracing minimalism while grounding itself in Ibiza’s own traditions. Architect Andrés García chose not to hide the building’s bones but to highlight them, leaving concrete walls and ceilings exposed but softened with woven wicker and fired brick lattices. The entrance sets the tone: two large blocks of Ibicenco stone, the material of the island’s old farmhouses, form the foundations for a soaring 14-metre cantilever of concrete and anchors the lobby in local heritage.

García calls the concept NeoCave, and the theme continues into the hotel’s 252 rooms, where floor-to-ceiling windows let sunlight spill across polished stone floors. The palette is deliberately earthy, with sand and terracotta tones, natural wood, and handcrafted ceramics offsetting the exposed concrete and creating a space that feels raw but refined for modern travelers. Rooms are scattered around low-rise blocks surrounding the hotel’s pools, with luxury poolside rooms enjoying their own private terraces, but the Eclipse Suite, with its penthouse perch and panoramic views, offers the most exclusive experience.

The pools at Bonito Ibiza are the social heart of the resort, designed to draw guests out of their rooms to meet and mingle. Privacy is possible, of course, with quiet corners to retreat to and heavy curtains in the bedrooms for when solitude calls, but the hotel’s philosophy is about connection – the spaces feel curated specifically to bring guests together. The main pool, aptly named Vibe, is fringed with cabanas and generous day beds for soaking up the sun (and the beats from the live DJ). Tucked around the side and to the back of the resort, the Joy Pool offers a slower rhythm, with more oversized day beds inviting guests to sink in and linger, topped up by light bites and casual dishes from the adjacent Chiringuito, one of the hotel’s two restaurants. There’s also a small infinity pool at the Bonito Rooftop; with its sweeping views across San Antonio Bay and the sparkling Balearic Sea, it’s a sweet spot to drink in the sunshine with a cocktail, before sunset transforms the space into the hotel’s upscale Mexican restaurant, Cielito.

A bountiful buffet breakfast is served at Chiringuito: all artisan cheeses, Iberian charcuterie, flaky pastries, and fresh island fruit, plus there’s an à la carte menu where you’ll find all the brunchy classics. Throughout the rest of the day, Chiringuito serves casual fare like colourful salads, crispy goujons, and pizza alongside some bolder plates, but for elevated dining, make a reservation at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, Cielito. With a menu that’s more than a match for the views, plus its own tequilateca, it’s already proving an exciting new draw on the island for vacationers and locals alike. Start with the tasty tacos or fresh ceviche sharpened by serrano chilli and follow up with the standout beef ribs with mole: cooked to perfection, the tender meat melts effortlessly off the bone, each bite rich with smoky, slightly sweet flavors.

The Bonito Spa, with its hammam, sauna, and hydrotherapy pools, offers a range of bespoke treatments to soothe guests’ muscles after a long flight (or a heavy night out). The 24-hour gym is small but well-stocked with the latest kit, and complimentary bottles of ice-cold water are available to keep you hydrated throughout your workout. But this is Ibiza, where relaxation and revelry can go hand in hand, and Bonito Ibiza is a hotel that leans into both. Guests who book directly with the hotel have free access before 3 pm to O Beach: one of Ibiza’s most famous beach club experiences, it’s just meters from the hotel’s doorstep. And when midnight calls, some of the island’s heavyweight nightclubs like Amnesia and the brand new UNVRS, an exciting opening this summer, are just a twenty-minute Uber ride away. Then, as the night fades away, it’s back to Bonito, where your cloud-soft bed with its luxury linens awaits.
