Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, has appointed Philippe Kronberg as General Manager, while expanding his responsibilities as Area Vice President of Operations across Europe. The move reflects the group’s continued focus on strengthening leadership across its most important markets.
Overlooking the tree-lined expanse of Hyde Park, the London flagship has long defined a quieter, more deliberate expression of luxury. Kronberg’s arrival signals a renewed emphasis on precision, service, and strategic growth at a pivotal moment for the brand’s European portfolio.

A seasoned hotelier with more than three decades of experience, Kronberg brings a reputation for disciplined leadership and an instinctive understanding of high-end hospitality. His remit extends beyond London, providing oversight and operational guidance to Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s properties in Mayfair and Paris, as well as newly integrated hotels in Amsterdam.
He joins from Shangri-La, where he most recently led a large-scale beachfront resort in Muscat, overseeing three properties and more than 640 rooms. Earlier roles include General Manager of Shangri-La Sydney, along with regional oversight across Australasia. His career has spanned Turkey, China, Thailand, and Australia, shaping a global perspective grounded in consistency and detail.

The appointment comes at a defining moment for the Hyde Park address. The property continues to balance its storied heritage with a modern sensibility, evolving without compromising its identity. Under Kronberg’s leadership, the focus will remain on refined service, culinary distinction, and deeply personalized guest experiences.
Flavia Daudan-Caponi, Regional Vice President of Operations, described Kronberg as a leader whose operational depth and strategic clarity align with the group’s ambitions across Europe. His appointment, she noted, reflects a continued commitment to excellence in key global cities.
Kronberg approaches the role with a measured sense of purpose. “Mandarin Oriental is synonymous with legendary service and timeless luxury,” he said. “I look forward to building on the hotel’s heritage while continuing to evolve the guest experience.”

A dual French and Australian national, he is fluent in English, French, and German. His career began at London’s The Ritz following his studies at Les Roches. He later earned an Executive MBA from AGSM. Beyond hospitality, his pursuits reflect the same discipline: a former paratrooper, a licensed private pilot with a passion for aerobatics, and a committed philanthropist.

Interiors by Joyce Wang draw on the natural tones of Hyde Park, creating a calm and composed environment. The hotel’s culinary program continues to anchor its reputation, led by Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, alongside the Japanese izakaya experience at The Aubrey, Afternoon Tea in The Rosebery, and cocktails at the Mandarin Bar.
Set between Hyde Park and Knightsbridge, the property remains one of London’s most discreetly powerful addresses. Under Kronberg’s leadership, it is poised not simply to maintain its standing, but to refine it—quietly, precisely, and with confidence.
