The automotive industry is constantly evolving, and electric vehicles (EVs) have become a major player in the market. One company that aims to make a significant impact in this space is AIM. The Japanese engineering company, founded in 1998, specializes in automotive design and technology. Recently, AIM unveiled its first-ever concept vehicle, the AIM EV Sport 01, which is set to make its public debut at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Unveiling the AIM EV Sport 01 Concept
In April, AIM introduced the EV Sport 01 to the world, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. This encouraged the company to explore the possibility of limited-series production. However, before taking that leap, AIM is currently conducting rigorous testing and evaluation of the vehicle. One of the key features being tested is AIM’s advanced APM200 electric motor, which is configured in a dual-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup.
The AIM EV Sport 01 is a two-seat coupe that boasts an impressive powertrain. With a curb weight of just 3,141 pounds (1,425 kilograms), this lightweight vehicle is powered by two APM200 motors, producing a combined 483 horsepower (360 kilowatts) and a maximum torque of 545 pound-feet (740 Newton-meters). What’s more, these motors are controlled by an advanced torque vectoring system, allowing for enhanced handling and responsiveness. The inverter, with its 720V input and 380 kW output, ensures efficient power delivery.
To ensure a substantial driving range, AIM has equipped the EV Sport 01 with a laminate rechargeable lithium battery. This battery has a capacity of 81 kilowatt-hours and is configured in four packs, enabling an estimated driving range of 186 miles (300 kilometers). While AIM has not provided specific performance figures, the combination of the car’s low weight, aerodynamic design, and ample power should translate into impressive acceleration and top speed.
The AIM EV Sport 01 features a stunning design, both inside and out. The body panels are made from a carbon fiber laminate structure, offering a perfect balance of strength and weight reduction. The interior, known as the “bathtub,” is also made entirely of carbon fiber, providing a luxurious and sporty feel. The vehicle rides on 20-inch wheels, with 235/35 ZR20 tires at the front and 275/30 ZR20 tires at the rear, ensuring optimal grip and stability.
The design of the AIM EV Sport 01 was entrusted to SN Design Platform, led by the renowned Shiro Nakamura. With years of experience as the chief designer at Nissan, Nakamura oversaw the creation of iconic models such as the GT-R, Cube, and Leaf. His expertise shines through in the sleek and aerodynamic design of the EV Sport 01, making it a true head-turner.
Automotive enthusiasts and industry professionals eagerly await the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the AIM EV Sport 01 will participate in the “First Glance” category. This prestigious event, taking place from July 13th to 16th, offers an opportunity to witness the potential of this groundbreaking electric sports car firsthand. Spectators will have the chance to see the EV Sport 01 in action as it takes on the challenging Goodwood Hill.
The AIM EV Sport 01 concept represents a significant step forward in the world of electric sports cars. With its lightweight construction, impressive power, and advanced technology, it promises an exhilarating driving experience. AIM’s foray into the EV market demonstrates its commitment to innovation and sustainability. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the AIM EV Sport 01 serves as a testament to the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
