Regarded as one of India’s leading architecture and interior design studios, ZZ Architects, founded by Architects Krupa Zubin and Zubin Zainuddin, have provided extremely high-end and bespoke architectural and interior design services to its client, always personalizing their experience according to the client’s lifestyle requirements.
One of their magnificent designs is a luxurious apartment in Walkeshwar, India with a spectacular view of the famed Mumbai “Queens Necklace’ coast. Although the overall layout was a typical grid formed apartment layout there was a deliberate attempt to create something out of the ordinary both in terms of layout and then ultimately finishes, producing an eccentric and jaw-dropping final result.
Free-flowing spaces and exploration of curved and sinuous forms create a new spatial typology for apartment design. Special efforts have been made by incorporating large oversized windows with minimum frames to make sure that the view is not obstructed by vertical members of the window frame. The challenge was to make this apartment feel more intimate. The low ceiling
heights and structural beams were to be camouflaged so as to make the divisions feel seamless.
The living room was a result of the mixture of textures, colors, fabrics and even styles. The geometric shapes present in the walls, the harsh lines of the upholstery’s outline, the somewhat art deco inspired design in the floors, mix together with flowy shapes of the center table and floor lamps, creating an almost ethereal aesthetic for the living room. Intimate sofa arrangements ensure a sense of closeness and connect with the guests in the formal living room. A wall faced piano is neatly tucked into the corner of the space.
The center table is a quite known design from BOCA DO LOBO. Perfectly combined with the customized marble and glass colibiri pattern that works as a metaphorical rug, both taking center stage of the living room. The Eden Center Table presents a part of the tree of knowledge and the tale of the birth of desire. Using the highest quality materials and textures, giving them shapes through objects that create a cosmopolitan luxury environment, finding the finest example in this table. Fully made of polished casted brass, with a delicately engraved top exposing the heart of a golden tree to the very heart of the living room
The Dining Room windows have been redesigned to enjoy the seamless glazing overlooking the view. Reflective surfaces on the ceiling and the brass Fortuna Dining Table, also from BOCA DO LOBO, serve as an interesting backdrop for a bespoke chandelier which orients the eyes in the direction of the view.
Representing the essence of empowerment, sophistication, mystics, and enticement, the Fortuna features a one of a kind design, with a unique table surface texture and incredible finish, that goes perfectly together with KOKET’s Chandra Dining Chair, both bold and daring. The modern edge in this chair exudes the feeling of vintage glam, while metal bands delicately bind the chair highlighting the sculpted fluidity of the tight back upholstery.
Perfectly matching the ethereal aesthetics of the dining room, is the Newton Freestanding from MAISON VALENTINA. The glossy spheres of the washbasin perfectly match the round pattern and shapes of the wall behind it. The organic shaped freestanding made out of casted aluminum spheres that merge to create a tabletop, providing a unique design approach to this decor piece.
The spheres are finished with a high gloss black lacquer, contrasting with the cut ones on the counter, finished in casted brass. It features an integrated round sink in polished brass for some golden accent. It is a true piece of art that complements the shine and opulence of all the room.
Also featuring a variation of the Charla Dining Chair from KOKET, this counter stool version of the same chair breaks the frontier between softness and the hardness. Combing two materials, the soft velvet upholstery, and the sleek brass structure. Both materials create a symbiosis and warmth perfect for the refined aesthetic of the accessories and architecture of the room.
In the shape of an open capsule, the kitchen has peripheral curved counters and a mat glass island arc standing central. The finishes are in tones of white with a striped marble floor adding a visual context. With state of the art gadgets having their designated zones, it serves as an elevating workspace.
Last but definitely not the least, the grandiose master bedroom, the view has been strategically considered while creating a luxurious master bedroom. The defragmentation of the typical bathroom layout by positioning the shower cubicle as a cast glass finished enclosure almost in the middle of the space.
The main master bed takes center stage and is aligned perfectly to reveal a stunning view of the sea and the skyline across. Every individual piece of activity is planned in the master bedroom suite keeping in mind experience and comfort-oriented point of view. This typical four-bedroom apartment has been totally redesigned to ensure that the spaces feel like a flowing volume.
The innovative architectural vision of the ZZ Architects’ brand is evident in the practice’s ability to continuously produce masterpieces of extraordinary architecture, and this time, working with Covet House is visible that it is a match made in heaven.
