Moving house should be one of life’s joys – but instead, it’s a process laden with stress, strain, and more paperwork than a Kafka novel.

According to the Telegraph, two-thirds of people in a national survey voted house moving as one of their greatest stresses. Nicky Ledbetter, chief executive of charity Anxiety UK claims that this is perfectly natural.

‘It’s one of life’s most stressful experiences, and it’s because it involves having to cope with change,’ he said. ‘Moving house represents a transition in life, it’s about change and unfamiliarity, and for many people that causes stress and anxiety.

‘Most of us like familiarity, routine, and order. When you’re moving, you have none of those.

‘Plus it causes a ripple effect of change throughout your life. You’re not just changing your home and getting to know the new one, you might be in a new area, you have to find new schools for your children, take on a new commute to work, find a new GP and dentist.’

But there are many ways to make settling into a new home that little bit easier – and one is to treat yourself to a little bit of luxury.

After a big move, and expensive, a top-of-the-line purchase is the perfect housewarming present to yourself, acting both as a good omen for your move and a new focal point to focus on in between the mountains of boxes you still haven’t found the time to unpack.

To help you in your quest to purchase a luxurious item for your new home, we’ve found a few of our favorites. Have a gander, steal your bank account, and get buying.

Scented Candles

Entering a room and catching a waft of sandalwood or velvet rose in your nostrils is one of life’s great pleasures. The stimulation or your olfactory senses can provide you with a guaranteed boost, which is why scented candles are a must-purchase for a new home.

While well-known brands like Yankee Candle or Jo Malone are perfectly acceptable, the supreme decadence of HIGHBORN Luxury Natural Wax Candles will give you a whiff you’ll never forget.

Luxor Lighting

The correctly pitched lighting set-up can transform even the crumbiest bedsit into a living space of Ritz-like proportions.

Lights can influence our moods more effectively than almost anything else. So if your bedroom has low-key lamps lighting a minuscule sliver of the room, you might feel a bit down in the dumps. Conversely, a room fitted with high-powered bulbs might cause a distracting and unpleasant glare.

The Luxor ceiling lamp from SM London is perfectly pitched to provide the appropriate lighting for any space, with eight separate bulbs illuminating every corner of your room.

New Bedding

When there are unpacked boxes littered around your new home; when you haven’t unearthed the correct utensil to prepare food in the kitchen, and so resort to ordering from the nearest takeaway; when the telly isn’t set up yet and you’ve got nothing to distract from the mess surrounding you; that’s when a bed is the most important part of your home.

To show your appreciation for this provider of a good night’s rest, invest in a Blue Royal Egyptian Cotton duvet cover set to experience true comfort. After all that moving, you deserve a decent sleep.

Those are our luxury suggestions for your new home. What purchases do you enjoy splashing out on? Let us know in the comments below.
