If you are an adventurous family who likes taking cruise vacations each year during Christmas or have loved ones spread all over the world, you might find yourself away from home for Christmas more often than not.

So if this time you are considering island hopping in the Mediterranean at this time of the year, here are a few ideas to share on whether to carry  Christmas in your suitcase or not.

Christmas, no doubt, is a time for joy-giving and spending time with loved ones. But the question arises whether it is worth the effort while on the move or in the middle of the ocean.

Holiday decorations matter

Connecting with loved ones during the all-important Christmas holiday season is all about how you wish to show your love and affection for them.

That said, for those who travel during the Christmas period away from home, decorating their temporary abode can be a nice way to connect with friends and families and share the holiday spirit.

Here are a few ideas to decorate for Christmas while on the go, without adding any extra stress to space and your baggage because it is definitely worth celebrating the occasion, no matter where you are.

If Santa can travel with a bag full of goods, there is no reason why you can’t carry Christmas decor to cheer you up wherever you go. Here is how to add a touch of Christmas cheer to your otherwise cheerless condo space.

  • Carry lightweight decorative items that don’t occupy too much space in the luggage.
  • Select multiple-purpose items that can double up for different occasions.
  • Layer in textures in order to make your home away from home cozy. Scent the air with essential oils to make your room smell like Christmas.
  • Incorporate lights and flameless candles that can be plugged fin or instant Christmas twinkle and amp up the festive glow

Reasons why it may not be worth it

Christmas decorations while traveling are generally not worth the effort as they ask for careful packing and also might not be suitable to your accommodation type, except for small portable items.

Some other reasons to consider are:

  • Logistics: If you are a light traveler, packing and transporting decorative pieces can prove to be cumbersome.
  • Accommodation issues: Rental properties or cruise staterooms you stay in usually have space limitations that are unsuitable for displaying large decorations.
  • Unfamiliar environment: Setting up Christmas decor in a place you are not familiar with can be challenging.

What is the alternative?

Besides carrying small portable decoration items you can create your own mini-Christmas tree by shopping at local Christmas markets and also experience the festival atmosphere, enjoy the local food, and admire the decorations.

Flowers too can be a big part of your Christmas celebration. Pack artificial flowers and a vase to create a flower arrangement. Add a holly plant to liven up the space.

If you are cruising, you can attend onboard events like concerts or take part in Christmas-themed parties and activities. Carry a Santa hat and a Christmas scarf to get in the holiday mood.
