No matter your skill level or schedule, Philipp Haug, co-founder of Haug London Haus and lead stylist for the BAFTAs, shares his expert tips to help you recreate quick and simple hairstyles that will see you ringing in the New Year in style.
Super Sleek
This party season, sleek, face-framing hairstyles are taking center stage.
“One of the biggest trends for party season hair is sleek, off-the-face styles. For a chic and polished look, try a slicked-back ponytail or simply brush the hair away from the face and tuck it behind the ear to secure it. These looks also work well with movement around the front, with pieces pulled out and shaped around the face or even simple finger waves. This look is strong on the product to get the sleek off-the-face effect and to keep it in place.
Bouncy Blowout
Channel an iconic ’70s vibe with a voluminous blowout that’s surprisingly easy to achieve.
“The easiest way to add volume is to use heated rollers through the top area, close to the root, in very big sections. Leave the rollers in for as long as possible to achieve a beautiful bouncy blowout finish. For lasting results, try curling each section with a large barrel tong before setting with the rollers.”
Sixties-Inspired Beehive
Brigitte Bardot-inspired styles are making a bold comeback.
“The easiest way to create a Bridgette Bardot style is to add volume into the hair by aiming the nozzle of your hair dryer into the root. You then want to create the curtain bangs that frame the face, so use a large round brush to shape this front section, keeping the volume at the root. To add height to the crown and to create a modern beehive-esq shape, take a horseshoe section of hair and gently backcomb. Brush it backward, introducing it to the length of the hair with a twist, and secure it at the back. Add waves or texture for a modern finish.
Get Your Glam On With Accessories
Hair accessories are your go-to for adding instant glamour when short on time.
“We’re still seeing lots of bows this season, which add style and sophistication to your sleek ponytail. I particularly love burgundy bows, as this color looks great with both dark and fair hair. Equally, a plush or bejeweled headband adds a touch of glamour and interest to a simple knot or bun Hollywood wave.
