The Range Rover is one of those automotive comfort foods that appeal naturally to luxury SUV buyers due to its aristocratic British personality and peerless brand image. The Range Rover is the default luxury SUV choice for many due to its styling, capabilities, and brand image. While you can get cheaper Land Rovers, the Range Rover is the one you want to own always. Well, it’s good news as now there is a new one which takes a further dip into the ocean of luxury. The Range Rover has always been the most upmarket Land Rover and things have just been pushed further towards the luxury end. The new Range Rover is more technically advanced, cleverer, and is topped off with a lot of luxury along with some environmental consciousness too. A fully electric version is coming later but plug-in hybrids are available right now alongside gas and diesel versions worldwide. Fret not, a V8 is also there albeit cleaner and more powerful than before. An array of clever technology also finds its way with all-wheel steering enabling you to park this behemoth easily in narrow cities or even cutting its turning circle. It’s lighter and promises better handling via a new active 48-volt electronic roll control system. Of course, you can very well go off-road but this luxury SUV is keener to showcase its craftsmanship more than get all muddy.
Speaking of which the all-new cabin looks clean and is minimalistic but showered with a generous dose of traditional luxury materials. On the LWB models, the SV trim ramps up the luxury quotient with a two-tone front-to-rear contrasting colorway, choice of materials/metal/leather to even sustainable non-leather Ultrafabrics. The SV trim is aimed at Rolls-Royce owners with a luxurious four-seater layout replete with an electrically deployable Club Table along with a full-length console at the rear seats plus rear-seat entertainment etc. Upfront the cabin is sparse and all the better for it while the nerve center happens to be a 13.1-inch curved, floating screen with haptic feedback. The driver display is, of course, all digital and configurable. There are enough gadgets and gizmos with Alexa voice AI, remote park assist (where you can remote park the car), Cabin Air Purification Pro, a 1,600W Meridian Signature Sound System, and an Active Noise Cancellation system. Much effort has been poured in to get the utmost cabin quietness and the emphasis on refinement/luxury/comfort is quite clear to see. Oh, and it has power-assisted doors!
What inevitably must be discussed is the styling which has been a delicate exercise in designer restraint. The look has been cleaned up with minimalistic lines and a more elegant stance. The Range Rover is a huge SUV but somehow it looks more subtle and restrained than rivals while also having a quiet yet authoritative stance. Let’s just say it is the only non-flashy flashy luxury SUV! Our favorite bit is the yacht-like rear with nearly hidden tail-lamps matching the design outline. It looks incredible and is the biggest highlight of the new generation model embracing its more upmarket ambitions.
When it comes to first impressions, the new Range Rover seems like a triumph and will only increase the popularity of this flagship SUV.
