May sees the launch of a great whistle. Every Tamdhu whisky is a great whisky. The Speyside Distillery, renowned for its Oloroso Sherry cask maturation, is about to release its anticipated 21-year-old expression. Whisky aficionados are salivating at the prospect and imagining the spicy syrupiness and the waves of sherried oak with chocolate, sultanas, velvety toffee, and warm cinnamon porridge oats rounded out with a hint of mocha and marzipan, and getting a taste of Christmas cake in high summer.

Tamdhu 2 Yr Stylized Whisky

Tamdhu, part of Ian Macleod Distillers, the family-owned whisky and gin company, has been creating fine whiskies on the banks of the River Spey in Scotland since 1897. Tamdhu Distillery produces its spirit using its own local spring water. This very limited “coming of age” 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavour profile and entirely natural colour.

The new whisky is bottled at 47.5% ABV, unchill filtered, and is a limited (on allocation) annual global release with a recommended retail price of £299 for a 70cl bottle.

The octagonal Tamdhu bottle is presented in a Royal green cut-work gift case whose Spanish-Moorish design reflects the Southern Spanish sherry casks used in the maturation process. The display box,  with metallic Tamdhu monogram, slides off to reveal the inner design case and a slide drawer with a tasting notes booklet. The closure is gold wood, decorated with a gold branded capsule.

The oak from which the casks are made is grown in both Spain and North America, and all the casks are crafted in the family Cooperages and Bodegas of Jerez.

Sandy McIntyre, Distillery Manager, comments: “Our patience and dedication shine through in every sip of Tamdhu 21YO. This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from. Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavour.”

Gordon Dundas, Global Brand Ambassador for Tamdhu and Ian Macleod Distillers’ whiskies, said: “Tamdhu Distillery is located on the banks of the Spey and produces its spirit using its own local spring water. This limited “coming of age” 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavour profile and entirely natural color that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive.”

Tamdhu 21-year-old is available for sale in the finest global specialist retailers.

Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky also recently unveiled The Dedication Collection, introducing Tamdhu 43-Year-Old, one of the oldest, rarest, and most exclusive whiskies ever crafted by Tamdhu.  The whisky was matured in three exceptional sherry oak casks, with the sherry oak breathing, and the spirit taking on its unique character with every passing year. Presented in a hand-crafted, octagonal, wooden and brushed metal box, in a bespoke hand-blown crystal Victorian style decanter, the individually numbered bottles reflect the distinct deep amber color of Tamdhu whisky.

To celebrate the launch, Tamdhu teamed up with photomicrographer Peter Woitschikowski to showcase the purity, artistry, and beauty of the whisky itself. Bridging the gap between science and art, Peter uses a microscope fixed to a high-resolution camera to uncover the unexpected shapes and textures invisible to the naked eye.

He crystallized the whisky with natural extracts inspired by the tasting notes of orange, coffee, and lemon, using these as the canvas for the Tamdhu, photographed at 43 times magnification, representative of each year the whisky has matured in the sherry oak casks.

Tamdhu 43-Years-Old includes a personal invitation from Sandy McIntyre to an exclusive stay at the closed-to-the-public Tamdhu distillery to enjoy a host of amazing whiskies with him, as well as the opportunity to explore the dunnage warehouses.

Tamdhu 43-Year-Old, priced at £13,500, is extremely rare, with 100 individually numbered decanters available globally. Visit tamdhu.com for more information
