The News on the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic

Most of the world is trying to go green in efforts to save the planet. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC crossover is in keeping with this philosophy and might just be the most important vehicle that Mercedes has ever produced. It’s the very first car that the company has designed and built from the ground up as an electric vehicle (the other models: SLS Electric Drive and B-Class Electric Drive were all based on previous Mercedes models).

The EQC made its debut in North America at the beginning of 2019 and here are some of the wonderful things you may need to know about this car:

What You Need to Know about the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic

1. It’s Designed to be a Real Mercedes

One of the many concerns that most people have with electric cars is that they don’t quite feel as the old, classic vehicles that they are used to driving. As such, most people who like big diesel engine trucks tend to shy away from electric vehicle despite all their advantages in terms of efficiency and environmental benefits. Mercedes knew this was a problem and kept that in mind from the start.

According to one of the lead engineers, so you don’t end up with a lemon, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic is designed to be “a real Mercedes first”. This means that the car is in keeping with almost all the luxurious perks that you would expect when you buy a Mercedes-Benz. It’s very much the Mercedes-Benz of electric vehicles.

2. It’s Based on an Entirely New Design Philosophy

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic was designed to follow an entirely new philosophy at the company. As an important progressive vehicle model, the designers at Mercedes had to start by defining what they wanted the EQ luxury brand to represent. Two of the most important factors are:

  • Seamless design.
  • Simplicity.

While the vehicle is as progressive as can be, the design is both simple and seamless. It is upon this philosophy that other EQ brand models will be built.

3. Later Designs will be Crazier than the Current SUV Design

The current 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic is based on an SUV model that is popular with many consumers across the globe. According to Mercedes, this was always going to be the first design to hit the market as far as the EQ brand is concerned.

This vehicle is something of a cross-breed between your regular GLC and a GLC coupe. It can be defined as “electric sporty”. Since the EQ philosophy has been established and actualized in this vehicle, future models are projected to have even crazier and fancier designs.

4. The Light-Up Three Pointed Star will be a Standard with this Vehicle

In current models of the Mercedes-Benz in the market, you have the option of buying a light-up three pointed Mercedes star as an add-on. That, however, is not possible with models that have adaptive cruise control because the radar sensors are mounted just behind the famous Mercedes logo. With the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic, however, the light-up star will come as a standard option. It’s the very first Mercedes model that will have both options in conjunction with one another in one car.

This standard light-up star will be an EQ-brand trademark. However, since regulations prevent car owners to have illuminated logos in Europe and China, this standard light-up star will only be available in the U.S for now.

5. There May Be More Powertrain Variants in the Future

As of right now, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic is only available as an EQC400 4Matic. This comes with an 80.0-kWh battery, 2 electric motors that make 402 horsepower and give 564 lb8ft of torque. It’s also an all-wheel drive.

However, the engineers say that it’s extremely easy to introduce different powertrain variants to this model thus highlighting the possibility of much more powerful EQ models in the future. These cars will have different battery packs, motors and much more torque. It remains to be seen whether the EQ model will work for AMG.

6. Most of the Parts that Make up the 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic are New

The truth is that the EQC models rides on basically the same platform that drives the GLC crossover which is the same size. However, most of the parts (up to 85%) and components that went into building this car are entirely new designs. The engineers even use things like noise-cancelling glass because they ran into an entirely new problem.

Thanks to the lack of engine noise, they could now hear things like HVAC sounds and even the wind outside as they tested the car. As such, they had to come up with different ways to minimize and cancel out those unfamiliar noises.

Mercedes, much like most other top luxury vehicle brands, are looking into the electric vehicle market and coming up with entirely new, stunning designs to capture it. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic is by far one of the best out there and the good thing about it is that it feels exactly like a Mercedes should.
