Through its massive bronze doors, a multisensory experience awaits curious diners at Alchemist in Copenhagen. A spectacular blend of gastronomy, art, drama, and visuals offers diners an all-encompassing experience in which Chef Rasmus Munk pushes the borders when it comes to the concept of fine dining at one of the world’s best restaurants.
Upon entrance to the three-story restaurant, guests are served their first few courses in the luxurious lounge which features a window to the kitchen/laboratory. You are then ushered along into the main dining room which features a 57-foot wide planetarium dome where your meal is presented. Surrounded by artful projections and stunning views, guests find themselves under the sea surrounded by jellyfish floating among plastic bags, in space looking down on the earth and even inside the human body.
In the dimly lit restaurant, the dark space is filled with wonders, making you feel like Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world. Combining art, visual technology, music (and of course mouthwatering cuisine), the two-starred Michelin restaurant is more than just amazing food, it presents a dining extravaganza. Expect the unexpected when dining here, a full sensory-charged experience with dishes that comment on social affairs and the present.
Set out to make his diners enjoy the cuisine, but also think and experience, Alchemist is set in the raw and industrial neighborhood of Refshaleøen. This innovative choreographed dining experience is a theatrical affair, centered on holistic cuisine that stimulates all five of the senses. Offering 45 to 50 ‘impressions’ on the menu comment on the issues of garbage, food waste, and plastic pollution as well as deliver nods to Warhol and Casper the friendly ghost.
The restaurant also features two sensory rooms with interactive elements and two lounge areas to give diners time for reflection during their three-to-six-hour dining experience. The menu is also available in vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian with advanced notice and there are three sets of wine pairings (their wine cellar holds 10,000 bottles) along with an alcohol free pairing.
Munk’s aim is to make food for thought that extends beyond the plate, one that encapsulates a holistic understanding of all the components needed in the creation of meal experiences. Through the thought-provoking, aesthetical, emotional, and gastronomical experience, Monk takes diners on a journey bursting with flavor, high-quality ingredients, and skillful preparations.
Alchemist seats 48 guests in one seating per evening and guests arrive one party at a time for an individual experience through the restaurant. Read more about the experience and book your tickets here https://alchemist.dk/the-experience.
