Even by Pebble Beach standards, this is a big one. Lamborghini heads to California later this month to mark the Miura’s 60th anniversary, bringing together more than 40 examples of the car in what will be the largest gathering ever assembled.
Every August, Pebble Beach Automotive Week attracts the world’s leading collectors, manufacturers and enthusiasts to California’s Monterey Peninsula. Alongside the famous Concours d’Elegance, the week has become one of the most important fixtures on the automotive calendar, with landmark anniversaries, significant debuts and some of the rarest cars ever built all in one place.
On August 16, the Miuras will line Pebble Beach Golf Links’ third fairway, which will open as a featured display for the first time in the event’s history. Open to the public, the exhibition will give visitors the chance to see the model gathered in record numbers. The display has been organised with the support of Lamborghini Club USA and its members.
When the Miura arrived in 1966, it changed the direction of sports car design. Its mid-mounted V12 engine and Marcello Gandini styling set the template for the supercars that followed, while its low, wide proportions remain unmistakable almost 60 years later. It is still one of the defining models in Lamborghini’s history and a favourite among collectors.
The anniversary also reflects the importance of the US to Lamborghini. The country is now the brand’s largest market and home to the world’s biggest community of Miura collectors, many of whom will be traveling to Pebble Beach for the celebration.
Lamborghini’s presence during the week will extend beyond the concours lawn as the marque is also expected to mark its recently launched collaboration with an Italian perfume house, Xerjoff, which will have a presence at Pebble Beach following the introduction of a collection of three fragrances.
For visitors, the anniversary offers the chance to see one of the most celebrated cars of the last century in numbers that are unlikely to be repeated. At an event known for exceptional machinery, a field of more than 40 Miuras is set to be one of this year’s highlights.
