Unveiled at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the Vision BMW ALPINA offers the clearest indication yet of how BMW intends to shape the future of one of Germany’s most discreetly coveted performance marques, preserving the effortless grand touring character that has long distinguished ALPINA while guiding it into a more modern luxury era.
For decades, ALPINA occupied a rarefied space within the automotive world, offering a more understated and comfort-oriented alternative to BMW’s M division while cultivating an almost cult-like following among discerning grand touring enthusiasts.
“Alpina has always represented a very specific idea of performance and refinement, where speed and comfort are complementary ambitions. Our role as the new custodians of this brand is to preserve this distinctiveness and shape it for a contemporary context,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. “Vision BMW ALPINA shows how these qualities can be expressed with discipline and modernity, suggesting what our direction is for this brand as we move it into the future.”
The 5.2-metre grand touring coupé combines a long, elegant roofline with a powerful stance and a V8 powertrain, embodying the balance of effortless performance and long-distance comfort that has defined the marque since its earliest days. Signature ALPINA elements remain present throughout, including the shark nose front end, subtle deco-lines, the familiar multi-spoke wheels, and the brand’s distinctive four-pipe exhaust arrangement.
“In Vision BMW ALPINA, we distil every element of the brand to its essence and apply it in a deeply modern and sophisticated way,” said Maximilian Missoni, Head of BMW Design Midsize & Luxury Cars and BMW ALPINA. “Every detail reflects substance, in engineering, in materials, and in the story it tells. Its subtleties reveal themselves gradually, rewarding closer attention. This interplay between purity and richness defines our approach to BMW ALPINA design.”
Inside, the cabin places equal emphasis on craftsmanship, comfort, and technology, with full-grain leather sourced from across the Alpine region, crystal detailing, finely finished metal components, and a bespoke BMW Panoramic iDrive interface created specifically for BMW ALPINA. The philosophy underpinning the concept remains unchanged from that established by founder Burkard Bovensiepen more than six decades ago: that comfort and performance are inseparable ambitions rather than opposing ideals.
That principle is reflected in the retention of ALPINA’s Comfort+ mode, a hallmark of the marque’s approach to effortless high-speed touring and a reminder that refinement remains every bit as important as outright pace.
BMW ALPINA became an exclusive brand within the BMW Group in 2026, occupying a unique position between BMW and Rolls-Royce within the company’s luxury portfolio.
“BMW ALPINA fills a gap in our portfolio between BMW and Rolls-Royce as we see even more potential in the high-end segment. With Alpina, we have a strong legacy and a global community, which we want to build on, while preserving the essence of what the brand stands for: speed, comfort, and sophistication,” said Oliver Viellechner, Head of BMW ALPINA.
If Vision BMW ALPINA is any indication, BMW intends to preserve the marque’s defining duality: effortless speed delivered with discretion, comfort, and unmistakable sophistication. The first production BMW ALPINA developed entirely under BMW ownership will debut next year, drawing inspiration from the BMW 7 Series while offering the clearest view yet into the future of one of Germany’s most quietly distinguished automotive names.
