Every year the Cannes boat show sets the tone for the future of the yachting industry. This year, it’s 700 boats and 650 exhibitors gathered together between the Old Port and the Port Canto to present their latest boats, equipment, and services.
It’s always astonishing to see the type of new engineering that is unveiled, the way some of the new technologies are working, and the way they are designed to enhance and improve the nautical world.
For its 47th show, Cannes Yachting Festival highlighted these innovations enabling visitors to easily find them and discover the ingenious way of the future of yachting..
Tyde
Based in Germany, Tyde has created an electric boat that represents the height of sustainable luxury. Its design stands out for its unique blend of comfort and cutting-edge style, prioritizing innovation. Featuring foils for an expansive sea adventure, it delivers an unmatched experience of speed, tranquility, and silence. It glides gracefully over the water, leaving no trace on the ocean’s surface.
Proposing already 2 models, The Icon is 13.15m long while The Open is 15 long.
Both models boast a futuristic look and are equipped with solar panels on the roof and large windows for guests to enjoy the views of the ocean fully. The foils complete the vessels of the future for smooth navigation.
Wider
Wider Yachts, a well-established Italian shipyard pioneer of the hybrid propulsion systems for yachts presented their new Widercat 92, a stunning blend of luxury and performance, designed for the discerning yacht enthusiast.
With its 28-meter length and its impressive 12-meter beam, the innovative catamaran features a spacious layout that maximizes comfort, with an interior filled with natural light and modern amenities.
Its eco-friendly hybrid propulsion system ensures a smooth, silent ride while minimizing environmental impact. Its solar panels on the decks as well as on its top recuperate the energy to better re-distribute it through the systems onboard and thus produce less CO2 emissions. With its advanced hull design, the Widercat 92 delivers exceptional stability on water. The expansive beach club calls for a communion with the sea.
YOT 41
On a smaller scale, the YOT 41 by Catana group is a French make. Another power catamaran, but with classic engines. The innovation in this model is the design. Optimized to occupy all of the space, it features additional foldable panels in the aft to create a beach club. Its rear sides can unfold to create an additional width to the boat, and thus enjoy a larger sitting area. The latter collapses to reveal sunbeds for the guests’ pleasure. This vessel is a complete transformer puzzle of its own. Looks small, but has the resources to become bigger.
Silent Yachts 80
The name says it all. The Italian shipyard is proud to have created an entire range of noiseless and self-sustaining yachts. The vessels are powered by the sun, they recharge themself when navigating A revolution in the yachting industry.
The Silent 80 exhibited at the show boasts 3 decks, but it can also be built with a flybridge. Due to its wide beam of 10.91 m and the layout of the spaces so subtly arranged, the upper deck is more reminiscent of a 45-meter than a 23-meter.
Thanks to highly advanced hydrodynamics the yacht can provide a smooth cruising experience.
EF1300 Outboard Electric Motor
Electric boats are becoming more common, however, Sublue is innovating with the EF1300. This engine model provides an ultra-long-lasting battery, which can be used in different ways.
The American motor has 6 horsepower which is ideal for a 4-meter boat, the battery can easily be removed to be recharged. When navigating, you can connect it to your phone, which will help monitor the charge in real-time and connect it to a mapping app for smoother cruising. Last but not least, you can also use it to recharge your phone or other devices as it’s equipped with outlets. As it also boasts a solar charging port that can be used while operating, you can safely go for an outing without worrying about the battery charge.
Posidenia Anchor
Posidenia is renowned in the nautical industry for its anchors, their engineering teams are always looking for a way to improve their equipment.
This year, they are presenting a lighter anchor still capable of securing a vessel at anchor.
As we know the weight of a yacht is very important for its builder and being able to lighten the weight of the anchor is a major feat. That’s exactly what they have accomplished with the PTW+R model: create an anchor that is half its weight with a high anchoring power.
These are only a few of the innovations presented at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. The show has been a trailblazer in exhibiting such yachts and types of equipment. Letting visitors experience them first-hand, as the organizers allow for the vessels to go out of the exhibition area for sea trials and present demos of the smaller equipment such as yacht toys much to the delight of the public.
