Counting Down to the Antigua Charter Yacht Show 2017
For yachting professionals with experience of the international boat show circuit and those who work on a yacht, few events are anticipated with such excitement as the annual Antigua Charter Yacht Show. Following the atrocities caused by hurricanes in 2017, the Caribbean seafaring community is keen to underpin the importance of the region as a staple of the international yachting scene. With the 56th edition of the event being held between the 4th and 10th December, we take the opportunity to share some of the highlights of the Antigua Charter Yacht Show, as expected in 2017.
The Start of the Caribbean Yachting Season | As a trade-only event, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show is reserved for brokers, crew, crew recruiters, and other industry professionals. On offer is the opportunity to view the best vessels available for charter in the Caribbean region, as well as the chance to network, socialise, and view the latest innovations that are to enhance the industry. Taking place in Falmouth Harbour Marina, the Antigua Yacht Club Marina, and Nelson’s Dockyard Marina, the illustrious occasion will mark the start of the Caribbean yachting season and will welcome superyachts of all sizes from across the world.
The Chefs Culinary Competition | A highlight for Yacht Chefs and fans of fine gastronomy, the Chefs Culinary Contest is sure to attract a great deal of attention among attendees and the international yachting press. The competition is held on the yachts of the respective competitor, with judges hopping between each to taste the spoils. This year, the theme of the competition is Caribbean brunch, which should make for an interesting selection of dishes. Complementing the competition will be the Tablescaping Contest, which will offer interior crew the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and skill.
Events and Experiences | In true Caribbean style, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show boasts a wide range of things to see and do. Attending guests enjoy a busy schedule, which includes wine tastings, boat hops, interactive exhibitions, competitions, yacht viewings, cocktail parties, lunches, soirees, informative talks, sailing opportunities, and much more. For visiting crew, the opportunity to interact with crew recruiters is invaluable, ahead of the winter yachting season. Whether looking for a new position on a yacht in the Caribbean or in search of a vacancy for the summer yachting season elsewhere, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show offers the chance to display your skills to the people that matter.
Hurricane Relief Efforts | Following the destruction caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria, relief efforts will be supported throughout the course of the event. Sea Mercy, an organization that runs a benevolent program aimed at bringing medical release to remote islands, is currently raising both money and awareness for the cause, in association with the Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting Charity Fund. On the evening of Wednesday 6th December, there will be a charity event in aid of Barbuda – one of the worst affected islands.
