Porsches fettled by Singer have become an art form and indeed are some of the most beautiful cars ever, with the concept of taking a Porsche and turning it into something else altogether. Their latest concoction references a unique Porsche 911 Carrera where owners in the 80s could order a new 911 Carrera with the pumped-up bodywork of the Turbo but powered by the company’s latest, naturally aspirated flat six. It is a more aggressive-looking Porsche but with a screaming naturally aspirated unit rather than a turbo one.
This process, as always, starts with the owner of a Porsche 911 (Type 964) sending their car to Singer, and then the process begins. Everything is removed, and the chassis is revealed while also being strengthened. The car is then a modern performance 911 but with the soul of an ’80s icon. The engine here is the Type 964’s iconic flat-six, but now being given a revised four-valve cylinder head. Singer has jointly developed this engine with Cosworth. It is also the first naturally aspirated engine restored by Singer to use water-cooled cylinder heads combined with air-cooled cylinders. The power figures are modest, but it is not about that. Reving to 8,000 rpm, the 4.0L flat-six belts out 420HP, and you can also opt for a six-speed manual gearbox.
There is also a raised gear shifter, which you can spec with an exposed shift mechanism. Of course, the titanium exhaust system further adds to the voice of that flat-six. The gorgeous design is pure 80s cool and comes with stunning carbon fiber bodywork, plus period correct pop-up headlamps, along with a big wing or a delete option too. Plus, in typical Singer style, there are those beautiful 18” center-lock wheels. The interior is also bathed in period-correct gauges and design ethos. Customers can also choose from bespoke paint, leather, and material finishes, plus lightweight track-focused seats can also be specified.
The original 911 instrument is also overhauled with hand-built gauges mimicking a Swiss watch. Singer says technology is retrained and limited to navigation and phone connectivity. The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer will be limited to just 100 commissions, and the price is, well, flexible with the owner’s creativity being the only limitation here. To us, this is a beautiful analogue Porsche that is yet another classic concoction from this California-based famous Porsche restorer.
