The archetype of ‘looking cool’, the Ford Mustang Bullitt is a cult car with incredible aesthetics. With its Highland Green paint, black wheels, and lack of a badge, it could make any driver look like a badass in it. Add to that its Hollywood connection to the 1968’s movie Bullitt and you have the recipe for success for any car enthusiast.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Bullitt is the third generation of the special edition of Bullitt Mustangs, with the previous two rolled out in 2001 and 2008, and 2009, respectively. There have been 12,164 examples built of the latter two and around 8,000 in 2019 and 3,500 in 2020 of the latest generation. Although the production was supposed to end in 2019, it was extended into 2020 after the initial run sold out almost instantly.
Also available in blue and black, the 2020 Bullitt definitely looks best in dark green. Its black, 19-inch wheels and honeycomb grille adds to its retro flair. The muscular sports car is the perfect option for drivers looking for an elegant choice, but with a less hefty price tag than other similar cars, like the LC500 Lexus sports car, for example. Both the LC500 and the Bullitt offer plenty of performance and a bold design, with powerful V8 engines and rear-wheel-drive. There’s even a hybrid model too for those conscious of environmental concerns.
When compared to other Mustang cars, the Bullitt fits somewhere in between the GT and the Shelby GT350, all three sharing the same 16-gallon fuel tank and V8 engine. The modifications added to the engine make the car sharper than the standard GT, more responsive, and all in all, perfect for car chasing. In terms of gas mileage, it manages to be above the other two models, despite its power increase. It could even be considered quite economical, with an estimated combined range of 352 miles.
Just like any other Bullitt that arrived before it, the 2020 generation benefited from the Mustang Performance Pack 1 upgrade. The package includes specs like a stiffer suspension, six-piston Brembo brakes, revised steering, a Torsen LSD, and an uprated radiator. The car’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 received a 20-horsepower bump over the standard Mustang GT, taking the total horsepower to 480. A six-speed manual transmission was also hooked up to the engine.
Drawing inspiration from the famous ‘Stang driven by Steve McQueen in the movie Bullitt, the car was specially built to resemble the high-performance 1968 GT 390 Fastback. Best known for its car chase scene, the film features two identical 1968 Mustang GT fastbacks used by police lieutenant Frank Bullitt on the streets of San Francisco. It is one of those classics that have continuously been revived by bringing out modern versions.
Standing at $46,705, the 2020 Ford Mustang Bullitt is a great option for drivers that want to turn heads around with their new car. Believed to have been the last generation of its kind, the dark green muscle car was such a success that many are skeptical about this fact. Who knows, maybe the new 2022 Mustang will get its own 1968 remake.
