Arriving in Kenya’s capital city following our international flight between Cape Town and Nairobi, my daughter and I are collected by a driver from Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport. With a smooth check-in by the friendly front desk clerk, Diana, we are handed the key cards to our standard room on the second floor. Twin beds are covered in silky striped white bedding, and the mustard colored chair in the corner adds a beautiful splash of fun. Artworks by Ben (2015) adorn the walls in the lounge and the bathroom, and with 144 rooms to choose from, guests can opt for an executive suite, a junior suite, a standard room, or a day room (available from 10 am to 6 pm).
Our full board package has the benefits of three meals a day, and the inclusion of soft drinks and teas, or coffees. On the rooftop, the skyview pool has great vistas, and guests can take in the cityscape with a beverage or meal to keep them satiated. Heading down to the lobby, I look up to see the gorgeous chandelier suspended from the high ceiling, flanked on either side by bright wall art.
We are dining at Kitchen 9 this evening, and we can order from the à la carte menu or help ourselves from the buffet. My daughter’s face lights up as she notices that there is pizza on the menu and picks the Capricciosa, while I have the delicious fillet mignon. Concluding our meal with melt-in-your-mouth chocolate mousse for dessert, we retire for the night after a cleansing shower with the fragrant Apotheke shower gel. Early continental breakfast is served from 04:30 onwards, with a variety of cereals, baked goods, hot food, fruits, juices, coffees and teas.
