From the creation of their Meisterstück fountain pen in 1924, Montblanc has grown to include a variety of collections handmade with the finest of European craftsmanship. The process for creating the Kangxi collection took 18 months mirroring the intricate life and work of Kangxi, the longest reigning emperor in Chinese history. As the fourth emperor of the Qing dynasty, he ruled for 61 years which saw an expansion of exchange to the West. Portrayed wearing yellow court robe embroidered with a dragon, a Chinese imperial symbol, the ornate pen took a similar approach in its bedazzled design.
Inspired by Kangxi attire and fascination with mechanics, the pen is offered in three distinct designs representing the emperor’s supreme power. The Royal Blue Dragon comes in white gold, diamonds and blue sapphires with a dazzling 11.53-carat sapphire set at the base; the Jade Dragon in vibrant green jade against white diamonds on the cap and barrel; and the Imperial Dragon.
The Imperial Dragon is in champagne gold and white jade, adorned with yellow diamonds just like the yellow silk of the emperor’s gown. Its cap features a mechanism that drives the movement of the dragon’s eyes, cut in the shape of one of his sleeves, while the cone represents the movements in the heavens. A 6.42-carat square emerald-cut yellow diamond rotates freely at its center with the cap top set with diamonds and the clip is decorated with a natural white pearl.
